Messages that arrive without email

Not every message should be an email. A guest who has just arrived at reception, a parcel that is waiting, a reply to a request: you want to know that now. Doory has a notification centre in the portal and push notifications to the mobile app.

Why email is the wrong channel here

Email is for things that can wait. A host whose guest is waiting downstairs can't wait until they open their inbox. The same goes for a room that has been moved because of maintenance, or a request that has been resolved while the tenant is waiting for it. If you email all of that, it gets lost among everything else and you also accidentally send out more email than anyone wants to receive.

What's in the notification centre

Everything addressed to that person: replies to their requests, the status of their service requests, booking confirmations and changes, parcel notifications, guests who have checked in and event announcements. Together in one place in the portal, so you don't miss anything if you haven't looked for a day.

Push goes to the mobile app, for the messages where timing matters. That's where reception gains: a guest checks in, the host gets a push notification, and nobody needs to call.

Why preferences are set per person

Because people differ. One wants push for everything, another only email, and a third wants a message about a parcel but not about an event. That preference is set per member, and Doory uses it for every message. That's also the difference between notifications that work and notifications that get switched off.

What it gives you

Fewer phone calls at the front desk, because people know things the moment they happen. And less email, because anything that fits in a push notification doesn't need to be a message in an inbox.

What you keep control of

What you send a push notification for. Keep it to things someone needs to act on now. If every small thing triggers a push, half your members switch notifications off, and then it no longer works for the guest waiting downstairs either.
